Inside Line Promotions – ADA, Okla. (April 12, 2022) – Elizabeth Phillips ranks sixth in the AmeriFlex OCRS IMCA Sprint Cars championship standings a few weeks into the season.

This marks the first year that Phillips is focusing on winged sprint cars and the growing pains are leading to success, including the first top-10 run of the season last Saturday at Oklahoma Sports Park.

“I feel like I’m starting to be able to give feedback better,” she said. “That helps the team when I can really tell them what I’m feeling. Also, having Shane Vandervliet help us is very beneficial. I really enjoy working with him.”

Phillips finished where she started – fifth – in a heat race last Saturday during her debut at Oklahoma Sports Park. She then rallied from 14th to ninth in the A Main for her third career top 10 with the series.

“I think we struggled a little bit at the beginning of the night,” she said. “With it being a new track I hadn’t been to before that was expected. We actually fell back at the start of the feature not being able to see anything because it was so dusty. Once we got some green flag laps in I felt pretty comfortable.

“It felt really good to get a top 10. We needed to finish that race and come out above the eight ball. That helped us move up a little in the points. I’m looking toward finishing races and then hopefully starting higher in the A Mains than we have.”

Phillips has made the main event during all six series races this season, earning top 15s at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla.; at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; and at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Okla., prior to Saturday’s season-best outing.

“Being sprint car focused this year we’re taking it more serious and learning that every little thing counts,” she said. “I can’t really complain sitting sixth in points. It’s really early in the season and I think we’ll get better throughout the year.”

The tentative race plan this weekend is to run a local event at Creek County Speedway on Saturday.
